It is also interesting to note that the Roman Catholic faith states there to be three archangels. They are named Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.

The Stories About Michael
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran systems of faith write about about Michael. And in Catholicism adherents call archangel Michael, "Saint Michael the archangel." Artists and sculptors depict Michael carrying a banner, scales and/or a sword.
Folks debate and disagree as to the true total count of the number of archangels, still scholars in all the major denominations and faith expressions believe that Michael is indeed an archangel and one of the more well-known angels by most all people of faith.

(In this context the dragon is understood as an image or metaphor for the devil). Catholics often refer to Michael as “Holy Michael the Archangel.”
What Does Archangel Michael Do?
Let’s look in Biblical writings to answer this archangel question.
In the Hebrew Bible Michael is mentioned three times. In Daniel 10:13-21 we discover this about who is archangel Michael?
13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”
15 While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless. 16 Then one who looked like a man[a] touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak. 17 How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone, and I can hardly breathe.”
18 Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. 19 “Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.”
When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.”
20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince. -Daniel 10:13-21 New International Version (NIV)
In the Hebrew Bible - The Old Testament
We discover in the Old Testament that archangel Michael: protects and heals.
Again, in the Old Testament book of Daniel we learn more about Michael. 12 “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. - Daniel 12:1 New International Version (NIV)
In the New Testament Bible
In the New Testament a war in heaven describes the archangel Michael, being stronger thus defeating the dragon (Satan) and throwing the devil down to the earth.
7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. - Revelation 12:7-9 New International Version (NIV)
In the New Testament book of Jude again Michael is called an archangel when he again confronts Satan. But even the archangel Michael, when he argued with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to condemn Satan for slander but proclaimed, “The Lord rebuke you!” -Jude 1:9 The archangels can also serve as guardian angels, as God chooses.
Are you clear now on what the Christian and Hebrew faith says about ho Is Archangel Michael in the Bible? I hope so.
Archangel Michael Prayers for Protection and Healing
How might we pray to archangels? Since in the sacred writings of the Bible and other texts, Michael is known as the healer and protector, many people of faith and belief will offer prayers to Michael for either healing or protection or both.
How to Pray to Michael the Angel?
In the Roman Catholic faith there is a specific prayer that is prayed to archangel Michael. It goes like this: “St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.”
This is one formal prayer that gives us a glimpse of how to talk to archangel Michael and why it is important, especially since this angel is so well known, to understand who Is Archangel Michael in the Bible?
Signs That Archangel Michael is With You
People are on the look out for physical signs of the angel’s presence, especially in times of need. With archangel Michael as with all of God’s angels there are general signs to look for to feel and see and know assurance of their presence.
What Does Archangel Michael Look Like?
The Bible never gives the reader very much help as to the appearance of or what any archangel or angel for that matter looks like. That has never stopped artists though from imagining how Michael looks. Artists have imagined the Archangel Michael (and all angels) as beautiful, taller than humans, and powerful.
The Bible writer, the Apostle Paul says this about angel appearances, “Not all flesh is alike” and “there are both heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one thing, and that of the earthly is another” – 1 Corinthians 15:39-50 (New International Version NIV)
While Michael is a spiritual being, he is most often depicted as a warrior standing tall with a sword and a shield protecting God’s people from danger and harm.
Working With Archangel Michael
There really are angels. Scripture points to their existence too often to deny that God made them, and they serve a purpose in God’s kingdom. Angels are “mighty ones” who work for God -Psalm 103:20 using His authority and the power He gave them to fight evil and all things that would draw God’s people away from their Creator.
Of course I have to admit that this is always a matter of personal faith and trust in the spiritual realms and those things that we can not readily see.
We understand that in the verses cited above, writers and storytellers inform us that angels deliver messages, “carry out some of God’s judgments,” act as an “example” to us in their worship of and obedience to God, and “patrol the earth as God’s warriors and messengers.” They act on behalf of God’s people as per God’s command.
The archangel Michael is preeminently one of these and is known as the high angels in God’s court of praise. I believe it is significant that all major faiths cite Michael in their sacred texts and give stature and power to this heavenly messenger.
I know if you have read this far in this post that you have a better grasp about Who Is Archangel Michael in the Bible.
Believing in Angels and the Archangel Michael
Your ability to perceive, understand, communicate with and know the truth personally about angels and especially the archangels comes down to one very simple but profound truth of all life.
You must believe in what you cannot readily see in order to see it come true. All faiths hold this truth and are woven into a whole by this thread, that it is the follower’s believing that proves and makes the truth real.
As stated in the new Testament in the Book of Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” I believe the Bible is talking about our loved ones who have passed on to that higher plane or dimension we call heaven.
This great cloud I also believe is made up of our angels and archangels who guide us closer to God and visit us at times to protect, heal and give us God’s truth. But you must trust and believe; have faith, if you are to know this fact personally. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” -Hebrews 11:1-3 (NIV)
The Bible Has Spoken
The Bible tells us that God created all the angels and that God placed some as higher rulers, we call them archangels to keep the order, run the place so to speak and lead the praise and worship of God.
As we have seen in this article, Michael is the first one of these special heavenly messengers who played a specific role in God’s work in heaven and on earth. Michael is known as “the one who is like God.” Michael plays an important role as the protector of God’s order and the warrior who fights for and defends God's judgement and rule.
When we are working for truth, protecting God’s order and fighting the good fight of honor and faith we are in a real sense working with archangel Michael. This work is indeed good work and hard work but it is never in vain or without reward.
